HOME  APRIL 03 TRIP

KO Members Set Off!

It means traveling half way around the world for several KO members and their friends, just to find that perfect training environment. Sun, sand and the exotic Thai culture await them. That's if there not too exhausted by the two training sessions a day (starting at 7 am) once they reach the training camp and all that night life!

Cas DeWale

This trip was organised by Cas DeWale who accompanies the group (sorry Cas - didn't mean to make you sound like a holiday rep).

Cas is 25 and has been training with KO in Muay Thai and Kickboxing for two and a half years. She has been to Thailand for training before and relishes the chance to brush up on her skills, with top class instructors. Last December she had her first 'C' Class bout and wants to take part in many more. She is sure that the techniques she picks up will prove invaluable.

"I want to gain more experience from training with top class instructors and champions such as Nokweed David as well as enhancing my fitness and cardio-vascular levels. Who knows, maybe even have a fight while I’m over there!" - Cas

My advice to anyone who wants to take on this 5'5", 55 kg dynamo when she gets back "Be very afraid!".

On the lighter side any one who knows Cas from the KO Gym will tell you that she loves to party. Her fave martial artists are Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. She also likes to watch Police Story, Crouching Tiger and Blade II. Who knows Cas maybe there on the in-flight video.

Linda Van Duinen

Linda Van Duinen, is 26 (1.76m, 62 kg) and took up training in Muay Thai this February.

This trip could be the start of great things for Linda, who will be able to draw on the experience of top class instructors, at the very home of Muay Thai, right at the beginning of her MT training.

"(Hope to) Learn lots more (am bound to since I’ve only started a few months ago) and have lots of fun." - Linda

Jacqueline Wood

Jacqueline Wood who is 25 and has been a Muay Thai student for about eight months now, is another Bruce Lee fan.

Her favourite movies are Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Matrix and Blade.

Maybe nows the time to live the dream!

"Always wanted to spend time getting fit and looking after myself without the stresses of work to contend with. Hope it'll give me the incentive
to keep fit for life. And I want a tan!" - Jacqueline
Zac Brent and Toni Lawrence

Zac Brent who is 23 (5'9", 78 kg) has been training in MT for about nine months. Before MT he had orthodox boxing experience and also has an orange belt in karate. Obviously a man who likes to be able to look after himself!

"(I want to) experience true MT at its origin and upping personal fitness and technique" - Zac

Zac didn't say what videos he likes so I guess it's a good doze for him during the flight!

Toni Lawrence is travelling with Zac. What can I say they both look happy!

Guy Heaton

Thirty three year old Guy has had about nine months training in Muay Thai. Like many he took up MT after several years training in other martial arts, in this case karate.

He says about Bruce Lee, "you can debate for ever if he was the best martial artist or not, but he was certainly the best exponent of the martial arts, which is why he is still so well known and influential today".

So let's try him on his favourite martial arts movies? "Big Trouble In LittleChina. (well it’s kind of a martial arts film). Enter The Dragon (has to be really). I think also Kickboxer deserves a special award for making out you can learn it all in 6 months by kicking palm trees."

"I’m looking forward to the concentrated single-minded training in those areas I need to improve on. I’m keen to see real Lumphini fights" - Guy

"Mainly I want to improve my sparring ability, I would like to have had at least an amateur fight while I’m not too old" - Guy

"The fact that most of the trip will be on a tropical island party paradise had absolutely no bearing on my decision to come along" - Guy

It looks as if the KO group aren't going to run out of conversation, with Guy along!

Mark McLeod

Mark (pictured here at the KO Punderson Gardens Gym) is returning to Thailand for a second time, having taken part in last Novembers trip.

I think that must mean he really enjoyed it, or is dead keen on seeing in the Thai New Year in style!

(note: Rumour e-mails sent in last year that this is Lister from 'Red Dwarf' are definitely unfounded)

Chris Pitchley will also be joining the KO group.
